Puerto Varas and its Charm

3 Nights /

4 Days

1 Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Varas

While Puerto Varas is your main destination, you are first going to tour the city of Puerto Montt, checking out the restaurants along Angelmo Bay. Afterwards, you head out for Puerto Varas.

2 Day 2: Puerto Varas

Option 1: Sailing to Peulla (11 hours)

You leave Puerto Varas for Peulla Island, a wonderful spot in the middle of Lake Todos los Santos. The road follows the contours of Lake Llanquihue, and overlooking the entire scene are the striking figures of Mount Osorno and Mount Calbuco, both volcanoes. Along the way, you enter the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park to visit the Petrohue Falls, and there you will see emerald colored water plummeting down twisted chutes of volcanic rock. The departure point for the island is the town of Petrohue, where you will have some free time to explore before setting sail for Peulla. If the weather permits, you will experience the spectacular sight of three volcanoes: Mount Osorno, Mount Puntiagudo, and Mount Tronador. After a few hours sailing on the lake, you make landfall at Peulla, an ecological village and paradise for lovers of nature. Roughly 11 hours later, you return to either Puerto Varas o Puerto Montt.

Option 2: Chiloe Island - Ancud (8 hours)

This excursion's first stop is Pargua, where you will board one of the many vessels that daily ferry vehicles and people from the continent to the town of Chacao, the port of entrance for Chiloe Island. It's a 30 minute crossing of the Chacao Channel, and you are there, in one of the oldest towns on this large island. The first thing you will notice are the curious and charming buildings that are everywhere on the island. From Chacao, you take to the road for the city of Ancud, where your tour includes stops at a lookout on Huaihuen Hill, Arena Gruesa Beach, Fort San Antonio (an old battlement built by the Spanish in the 18th century), the Ancud Interactive Handicraft Museum, the City Market, and the street, AvenidaCostanera. It is an immersion into the history, customs, and myths of one of South America's largest islands. You return to Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas in the afternoon.

3 Day 3: Puerto Varas – Frutillar (5 hours)

On the plan for this day is the town of Frutillar, located on the shores of Lake Llanquihue and across from Mount Osorno. Its townsfolk's origins are German, and it welcomes you with its unique houses, beaches, lovely gardens, and marvelous vistas. You will tour the German Colonial Museum, the amphitheater, and the EdmundoWinckler Forest Reserve.
