1 Day 1: Arrival in Iceland

Arrival at Keflavik airport, Iceland, according to your own itinerary. The rental car will be waiting for you at the airport. We recommend you start your tour by visiting the Blue Lagoon which is in only 15 minutes drive from the airport. From there you can head straight towards Hveragerdi the town you will be staying in this night or drive alternative route that will take you to Reykjavik before continuing to Hveragerdi. Hveragerdi is a small town surrounded by many natural hot springs which explains the name as "Hver" means hot spring in Icelandic. Accommodation in Hveragerdi.

2 Day 2: The Golden Circle & South Shore

Breakfast at the hotel. From Hveragerdi you will head towards the three best known attractions in Iceland that together make the so called “Golden Circle”. The first stop is Þingvellir National Park, a place of great geological and historical interest. Here you can walk around the ancient site of the world's first parliament held outdoors. Þingvellir has been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004. The second stop is by the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall. Here the river Hvita drops 30 meters in two falls, creating an awesome spectacle. The third and final stop included in the Golden Circle is by the Geysir hot spring area where you will see spewing geysers. Continue towards the South Shore. On the way along the south coast we recommend a stop at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall which you can walk behind. If you are interested in learning more about the famous volcanic eruption in Eyjafjallajokull 2010 we recommend you stop by the visitor center at Þorvaldseyri farm. Continue to the small village Vík, Iceland’s most southerly village. Accommodation in Vik.

3 Day 3: Vatnajökull National Park - Glacial Lagoon

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will drive through the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a former site of a 12th-century Catholic convent. From there you soon enter the Vatnajökull National Park, which is Europe’s largest national park. The area is an amazing place to view the great contrasts between active volcanoes, mighty glaciers, powerful glacial rivers and endless flat sandy plains. One way to experience the breathtaking landscape is to go for a glacier hike on Vatnajökull glacier. As you continue driving along the south-east of Iceland you will reach Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon where we recommend going on a boat tour among the icebergs. Continue to the charming harbor town Höfn, known as the lobster capital of Iceland. Accommodation in Höfn.

4 Day 4: East Fjords with high mountains and fishing villages

Breakfast at the hotel. This day you will drive along the rugged coastline of the East Fjords with their towering mountains and charming fishing villages. If you are lucky, you will spot some reindeer here and there along the way. Reindeer can only be found in this part of Iceland. You will drive between beautiful fjords and cross several fishing villages on the scenic route. At Stöðvarfjörður village we reccommend a visit to Petra's famous collection of local stones and minerals. Accommodation in Egilsstaðir

5 Day 5: Driving from the east to the north - Husavik fishing port

Breakfast at the hotel. From Egilsstadir your journey continues across Möðrudalsöræfi highlands renowned for their stark and untouched beauty. The drive over this inhabited area will take approximately 2 hours. Continue towards Dettifoss, Europe's mightiest waterfall. Close by you will find the magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon named Ásbyrgi where we recommend a stop to witness one of the natural wonders of Iceland. Drive onwards to Tjörnes peninsula, one of the best known geological locations in Iceland. From there you drive to the friendly Húsavík fishing port, famous for their whale watching tours. 6 Day 6: Lake Mývatn Area – Akureyri

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will have the possibility to go on a 3 hour whale watching tour from Husavik. The tour gives you opportunity to enjoy magnificent wildlife and witness whales and birds in their natural habitat. Afterwards you can explore the endless natural beauty of Lake Mývatn area. You can visit the mystical volcanic formations at Dimmuborgir, the colorful sulfurous slopes of Námaskarð and Krafla volcanic area. We recommend you make a stop by Goðafoss waterfall which played an important role in the Icelandic history, particularly in connection with the introduction of Christianity. We also recommend you take a bath in the Myvatn Nature baths before heading to Akureyri town. At the nature baths you can relax in a natural pool of geothermal water located in the middle of lava fields offering great view over Lake Myvatn. Continue to Akureyri, a town with 17.000 inhabitants that makes it the second largest town in Iceland after Reykjavik. Accommodation in Akureyri.

7 Day 7: From the North to Reykjavik

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you can explore the charming town of Akureyri better. We recommend taking a walk around the town’s center and try the famous “Brynju” ice-cream before you head back on the road. From Akureyri you drive through the historical region of Skagafjörður, renowned for horse breeding. Close to the town Varmahlid is Glaumbær museum where you can see an old turf farmhouse and other old buildings that show how Icelanders used to live in the 18th and 19th century. On the way to Reykjavik you can make a stop at Glanni Waterfall located in Borgarfjordur region.

Reykjavik is the world’s northernmost capital. 60% of Island’s inhabitants live in the capital area. Why not add an extra night in Reykjavik to have the next day to have time to look around the city?! Accommodation in Reykjavik

8 Day 8: Departure from Reykjavik

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Reykjavik according to your own itinerary. You can drive the car to the airport and return it there.
